Taking Science Out of the Tower and Into the Streets

For some time now, seasoned minds in science and science education have opined the decline of intellectualism in western society. Perhaps most notable in the United States, this phenomena has been by no means limited to North America, and anti-intellectualism and anti-science sentiment have permeated popular perception across the planet. So what are scientists and science enthusiasts to do? As Carl Sagan once wrote, “We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology“. Perhaps then, it falls to scientists and science communicators to step up their game, and eliminate the latter part of Sagan’s lament.
