The REU’s final weekly dive sites were Dynamite Drop and Richard’s Reef. Both on the south west side of LCI, the sites were quick to get to and probably the best options given the rather large storm that pushed up the wave energy around the usually pristine north side of the island. While visibility wasn’t as crisp as usual, both dives were a blast. Dr. Kristine DeLong, Katie Correia, and I picked up a new dive buddy along the way, in a Hawksbill sea turtle slowly perusing Dynamite Drop. Diving with the great staff, mentors, and students who took part in this NSF REU program will always be wonderful memory, and I hope the connections and relationships we’ve all built will serve us well into the future!
